Lemhi County Humane Society owns & operates the Salmon Animal Shelter and Rags & Wags Thrift Store.
SAS provides high-quality sheltering services for the homeless pets of Lemhi County.
We also provide funds for public spay and neuter programs in an attempt to decrease the number of dogs and cats entering our shelter. We serve as a line of defense against animal abuse & neglect, working closely with law enforcement officials, to ensure that all animals in Lemhi County are treated in a kind and humane manner.

10:00am – 6:00pm
7 Days a Week
Rags & Wags Thrift Store Hours:
8:00am – 4:00pm M-F
10:00 – 2:00pm on Saturday
Meet the new girl on our block, Chili! She is a spunky and sweet Pyrenees and Rottweiler mix believed to be less than 10 months old. She is housebroken, crate-trained, and knows to sit and stay! She has warmed up fast to all our staff and has been a rockstar for her vaccinations. She is curious about all these new things and is ready to explore them all. Our Gizmo is still out in her wonderful foster home! All our visitors, volunteers and staff love this guy, and so we had to spotlight the spectacular Spooky! His life has been challenging, but that has not stopped him from warming up and enjoying his new digs! Spooky not only has about 7 toes on each foot, but he also walks on his front forearms and stands to investigate things like a kangaroo! This does not stop him from climbing the cat trees! He enjoys his hard food even though he has no teeth. Spooky is one of a kind, and we love him so much for the uniqueness that comes with him. He is sweet with other cats and enjoys the rump scratches like you would not believe. He also is a certified biscuit maker! Spooky deserves a second chance at a life where his people will love him and take care of his unique characteristics! Our newest Bachlorette Fluffy wants to remind everyone that TOMORROW is the start of the Bissell EMPTY THE SHELTERS event! Our cat adoption fee will only be $20, and our dog adoption fee will be $40! There was some confusion about previously posted amounts, but these are the prices of the adoption fees! Cathy Bissell and BISSELL Pet Foundation are why we can have this event and hopefully more in the future!
Back to our Bachelorette, she has spent the last year living outside after her owner passed away, and the neighbors brought her to us because they knew she was too precious to keep living in the streets! She has really warmed up to us and has been a rockstar patient during her ear treatment.
